History
Harrison Supply was established on September 23, 1974 by Clarence Andrew Harrison. Clarence "Harry" Harrison was born in Oneida, New York on January 15, 1921. Harry held his first paying job at an early age with Syracuse Supply delivering tools by bicycle. He learned and mastered several trades early on, including carpenter and Tool and Die maker. He became a Master Supply Sergeant in the army during World War Two. After the war he went into business with his father Clarence building and remodeling homes.
In 1950 he went to work for Carrier Corporation, where he became a senior supervisor over the production at the world's largest air conditioning manufacturer located here in Syracuse, New York. In 1966 Harry was hired by Pratt and Whitney Cutting Tool and Gage division, where he traveled over the entire United States working to solve cutting tool challenges in the metal manufacturing industry. In 1972 after relocating twice prior with Pratt & Whitney, he returned to Upstate New York going to work for distributor known as Barnes & Jordon. When a hand-shake agreement to take over this distributorship fell apart Harry decided to set out on a new journey and Harrison Supply Company was established.
This operation began at a desk in the bedroom of the home Harry built, located on Split Rock Road in Camillus, New York. A seven thousand dollar life insurance policy cashed in was the operating capital that Mr. Harrison had to start with. Harry established a reputation of delivering the products customers ordered. Along with providing good sound advice on how to properly apply the tooling he sold. Like the solid bed of blue limestone rock he swept off to build his home on up on Split Rock, solid are the principles and values of this new found company. Two years later the company incorporated to Harrison Industrial Supply and the motto is "serving the metal working industry". As the business grew, so did the employee’s, product lines, and inventory. The youngest two children in the family became the first employees at Harrison Industrial. Several of the neighbors were employed at various points in times in the company’s history.
Theodore Allen Harrison started working with his father after school working in the warehouse at the age of fourteen. Through the years Ted continued working after school and weekends in various aspects of the business. After graduating from Cornell in 1982 he joined his father in the business. On September 24th 1989, Ted purchased the business and property from his parents and they retired to Florida.
In 1996 the business had out grown it's location in Camillus. The corporation was moved to Corporate Drive in East Syracuse New York. This new facility is conveniently located within minutes to the thruway and interstate highways and ten minutes from the airport. In 1997 Harrison opened a branch office in Victor, New York to better serve the western part of the state. We expanded our western branch into a larger facility in Fairport, New York in 2007.
Presently Harrison employs twenty four people, distributes over three hundred product lines to hundreds of customers in New York State and Nationally. Theodore Harrison is quoted "Our People are our strength; we employ good caring experienced personnel. Our Focus is on providing value-added service with quality products to our customers. That is the foundation my father built this company on, and that is the direction of our company into the future."
